ZTE USA announced with a Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform-based UMTS solution already developed and devices expected in the next 12-18 months, ZTE is positioned to provide end-to-end solutions for North American operators looking to deploy LTE in the near future.
To address the North American market where many operators will transition from CDMA to LTE, ZTE will exhibit a dual mode BBU (Base Band Unit) for CDMA and LTE at the show. With the dual mode BBU solution, ZTE will conduct a “live-air” CDMA demonstration in the AWS spectrum. A 10MHz wide LTE channel will also be “hard-wired” showing the lighting speed of LTE.
ZTE recently invested in building a new R & D facility and production base in Xi’an, China, which will be primarily focused on creating new LTE solutions for its handset business and initiating research on post-3G technology advancements.
ZTE previously announced that they have long sought a bigger slice of the American cellphone market. This year, it may finally break through with the introduction of higher-end devices. “We are focusing our resources on the high tier,” says George Sun, chief executive of ZTE USA, the Texas-based subsidiary of China’s ZTE Corp. That means more investments in smart phones and, possibly, Qwerty keyboard handsets, according to Sun.
In addition, at CTIA, ZTE said “ZTE is excited to demonstrate its full portfolio of end-to-end wireless handset and networking solutions at CTIA Wireless 2009,” said Dr. George Sun, CEO of ZTE USA Inc. “Our presence in the U.S. market continues to grow at a rapid pace, as we deepen our partnerships with top-tier U.S. telecommunications players including Aircell and MetroPCS, who have come to rely on us for quality and innovation that will help them remain competitive. We’re pleased to have the opportunity to demonstrate the results of our significant investment in R&D to the North American and global market.”
